Theft from vehicles

Dear Resident,

We would like to make you aware that we have received reports to Police of thefts from and attempted thefts from vehicles reported in the local area overnight on 4 September 2026 in the Petersfield area.

We are asking everyone to take a few simple precautions to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

Please remember:

Always lock your vehicle, even if leaving it unattended for only a short time.

Remove all valuables from your vehicle, including bags, wallets, mobile phones, tools and sunglasses.

Do not leave items on display, as even low-value items can attract opportunist thieves.

Ensure windows, sunroofs and doors are fully secured.

If your vehicle has a keyless entry system, consider storing keys in a signal-blocking pouch when at home.

Where possible, park in well-lit areas and areas covered by CCTV.

We are also asking residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour around parked vehicles. If you witness a crime in progress, please call 999 immediately.

If you have CCTV, doorbell camera or dashcam footage and believe it may assist with enquiries, please contact us via 101 or through the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.
